Brass Ruler Bookmark – Korean Goryeo Heritage Tassel Reading Gift
A brass bookmark struck with the scale of a Goryeo ruler — 100mm of real graduation, so when a sentence is worth underlining you lay it down and draw.
It's 1mm thick, so the book still closes flat, and the silk tassel hangs past the page edge to mark where you stopped. Three colours: red, jade, navy.
For people who read with a pen in hand, or rule short lines in a sketchbook or planner. And for the reader on your gift list — it fits any book.
· Options: Red / Jade / Navy
· Doubles as a ruler · 1mm thin · approx. 190mm overall

| Link to Tradition
- The original is a Goryeo ruler of bamboo faced with ivory, excavated in central Seoul. Catalogued as Sinsu 1821.

- In old Korea a ruler wasn't simply a tool — it was a standard. Its length was set and maintained by the state. Measuring correctly mattered that much.
- The scale here is the *yeongjocheok*, the builder's measure. Cloth had its own ruler and grain had another; this one belonged to the people who made things. It belongs on the desk of someone building something.
- Precious ivory was added only to the markings. Since the life of a ruler lies in its markings, the hardest material was used precisely in those spots. The choice to use the best material in the exact place where accuracy is required—the attitude of the craftsman towards his work 800 years ago remains in that single piece.
- Tassels marked the things you didn't leave lying around. Books and seals were finished with silk to show they were kept, not scattered. A fitting thing to give someone starting to study, or setting their own standards.

| Unique Point
- Straight underlines. Hit a sentence worth marking and the bookmark is already in the book — lay it down and draw. No getting up for a ruler, no wobbly freehand line.
- A real scale. 100mm of struck graduation: the artifact's *chon* units along the top, millimetres along the lower edge. Size a plate, rule a line, keep reading.
- 1mm thick. Chunky metal bookmarks splay the spine and dent the page. This is about the thickness of a few sheets of paper. The book still closes flat.
- Brass doesn't wear out. Paper bookmarks get damp, creased, lost. This one deepens in tone with handling. It will still be in a book ten years from now.

- The graduations are struck into the metal, not printed. Nothing rubs off — year five measures like day one.
- The tassel ties through a hole at the end. Swap the colour, or move it to a pouch zip.
- The back of the package prints the story of the original. It gets read before the box is opened.
- A clear pillow case shows everything unopened.
| Option

Red
Warm vermilion against cool brass. The most visible of the three — it holds up on a dark cover. The safe pick as a gift.
Jade
A pale green close to Goryeo celadon. It never fights the book it's in, and it's easy to live with for years.
Navy
The deepest and most composed. It shifts between dark blue and near-black as the light moves. At home in a study.
